I booted into Bazzite this evening and noticed my lock screen had changed, I assumed there had been a major update of some kind. I’m impressed both with how quickly I got this and with how entirely seamless this whole experience has been so far.
So I’m currently in a full stack bootcamp (I know - it was free for me and I’m learning things even if it’s basically a scam)… why does Factorio have a json file?
Anyone know if Ublue Aurora works out of the box with a MacBook like OP has? I’ve got a 2014 MacBook Pro that I’m probably putting Linux on next year once I no longer need Mac OS.
My gaming laptop, with an Nvidia graphics card, is running Bazzite and I’ve never had any issues with it (of course, ymmv).
I’m always going to upvote a kitty pic, and I think a random kitten can improve every comment section… but why here?
Edit: Oh, I see now.
Google killed off their own cached pages last month and they’re now using IA as a replacement. Free linking is definitely important, but this is Google we’re talking about, and them using IA to save money - this feels a lot more exploitative if Google isn’t funding them in some way.
It’ll pass, but it’ll pass like a kidney stone.
Also don’t forget places like Free Geek - I’m glad to see my local one collaborating with YouTubers to get the word out but I’d like to see them do some more local outreach in the runup to W10 EOL (their computers often run Linux but encouraging people to switch to Linux is not their fight, imo). The donation might even be tax deductable.
Yeah, depending on how widespread this is, it’s probably worse than staingate.
I bought a 2014 MacBook Pro earlier this year, I got a good deal on it partly because it’s got severe delamination issues. With dark mode, it doesn’t really bother me enough to spend several hours with a bottle of Listerine to fix it yet.

Should I be worried? I was distro hopping for a bit and put together a Ventoy drive to make that easier, and I used it to boot the install iso for the distro I ultimately decided on for my gaming laptop. It seemed highly recommended and I didn’t know about the Ventoy bros at that point.
I despised Windows doing it automatically too, but that mostly had to do with how long it took, when it did it, and what those updates were. I think if Windows did updates like Bazzite, in the background while the computer isn’t under heavy load, rather than taking five + minutes at shutdown when you just want to go to bed, and you never boot back up to find out that the update was nearly unremovable AI garbage or ads, it’s better.
For the casual users who just want their computer to work, I think it’s a good way of doing it if you can’t do live patching for whatever reason, but for the OS as a hobby folks (I get it, no shade, lol) that you sometimes see in Linux spaces online, manual updates can be part of the fun.
It’s doing the updates automatically in the background, but it applies them on the next reboot. It’s easy to change that and manually update but I like how unintrusive it’s been - I’ve had to go and check to make sure my machine is actually updating. And if for whatever reason the update breaks something I can roll it back and still have a working computer and deal with tinkering later, but it hasn’t broken yet. I’m on Bazzite. It’s opinionated and I definitely wouldn’t recommend it to everyone, but I really like it.
Under Windows, I never wanted to shut it down because it took forever to both shut down and boot back up, so I used the sleep function. But I’m definitely old enough to have grown up with the habit of turning off the computer when I’m done.
That same laptop running Linux gets shut down when I’m done using it for the night because it’s just so much faster, and it applies the automatic updates my distro uses - painlessly. Why are Windows updates so terrible?
So many forks, lol.
Winamp go fork yourself!
I love GitHub drama.
Anyone know if the Dolby code leak is going to lead to anything interesting, or had this code been leaked before? And how fucked are the Winamp folks?
It surprises me a bit that PS3 emulation isn’t a thing on some of the newest Android phones (but not actually good yet). I could probably do PS2 fairly well on my current phone, and it’s so old it’s an LG, was the jump from PS2 to PS3 that big of a jump? (Having lived through that era… actually yeah, it kinda was.)

Try KDE Connect if you’ve got an android phone, it’s pretty cool. I had to tweak the notification settings on my phone to get it to work the way I wanted, but ymmv, I’m just saying this because I’m usually happy with the KDE default settings (at least the Bazzite KDE default, I’m not sure how much the Bazzite team has changed their DEs).
