Preservation is an invasive and destructive process. Recreating the experience of watching ‘The Daily Show’ in the 90s or early '00s is already impossible. Language and culture mildew and rot just like leather and wood.

EDIT: People don’t seem to understand what I’m talking about. Even the people who are responding in good faith seem confused. That’s on me. So I thought I’d try to clarify with an example.

Take the Mona Lisa. Perhaps one of the most preserved objects in history. It’s so well preserved that it’s impossible to see. Sure, you can look at it, but you won’t see it. Taking a picture of the painting is encouraged, but you can’t get a look at it in your camera roll either.

If you saw the actual painting hanging on a friend’s wall, your first thought would probably not be “what a masterpiece”, but “why didn’t they remove the default print that came with the frame”? If you go to Paris, you can wait in line to have the “Mona Lisa experience” but the painting you saw wasn’t hanging on the wall, what you’ll see is the Mona Lisa you brought with you.

Everything since feels like they let interns design things en-masse and half bake most of their releases. Zelda and Mario get sandboxes, one 2D release in years, and remakes. There’s Metroid Prime 4, but… if we’re being real, it should’ve come out half a decade ago, not to mention tossing Gamefreak the BOTW engine and apparently not helping, at all with recent Pokemon games if the bugs are anything to go by, Smash netcode issues and not being taken seriously as a competitive sport, gatekeeping their classics behind worse in-house emulators than what you get for free on GitHub, you could write a book.

To your credit, Nintendo’s golden age is well behind them. Most of the best games they’re likely to ever make are already runnable on PC, especially since they’ve been kinda phoning it in for the last decade or so.

My personal strategy to avoid this situation is to just not buy a car with those “features”. If I can’t know before I buy it, then I won’t bother to care to know. Keep your secrets, I’ll keep my $.

At some level, I’d put the blame of some of this on the consumer.

Something being a scam on some level should be the inherent suspicion of basically everything you intend to purchase. The chances a product is straightforward and trustworthy seem to be far less likely these days than the opposite.

If anyone reading this wants a V6, find a manual TL. Equally bulletproof, but with a J-series and room to stretch out and they are CHEAP for zero reason on the market. I don’t even understand it other than they don’t really have tuning potential, but as a commuter car, they can’t be beat for the price to comfort. They ride like clouds and have 300hp to punch with if you stomp them down an offramp.

If the data isn’t being paid for anymore, they can’t connect to anything at all. Is T-Mobile or Verizon or whoever expected to foot the bill ten years down for no reason? There may be some definitions of connecting I’m missing, but I reasoned a data connection over some sort of cellular network.
